Buy Museum tickets before coming to Firenze!

Hello Firenze!

We drove from Lucca  and slept 2 nights in Firenze, in lovely Bronzino 53.

Top attractions to visit in Firenze:
1. Boboli Gardens & Pitti Palace

IMG_2964
2. Piazzale Michelangelo (sunset view)untitled-2892
3. Piazza del Duomo, Museum & Santa Maria del Fiore CathedralIMG_2778
4. Old Town & Ponte Vechio
5. Piazza della Signoria & Palazzo Vecchio

We weren’t able to see Museums, like Uffizi, Galleria dell’Accademia and Florence Cathedral dome, because you need to buy tickets at least 2-3 days before the date you want to visit. Our dates of visiting Firenze were not possible to predict, so when you are on flexible itinerary, like ours, you will miss those Museums. However, Firenze is so much more than Museums. Get lost in Boboli gardens, you won’t regret it.

Hope you enjoyed our video! LINK HERE If you liked it, don’t forget to like, comment and subscribe.

One day, two cities – Lucca & Pisa

Hello beautiful Tuscany!

untitled-2492
We drove from Cinque Terre (Video) and slept 1 night in Lucca, in lovely Villa Cheli.
In one day we managed to visit both Pisa and Lucca, beautiful little Tuscany cities, with lot of culture, wine and very nice people.

LUCCA top 5:

  1. 101 Churches – city has numerous churches inside old city walls. Visit Duomo chatedral and St. Michael church.untitled-2505
  2. Piazza Anfiteatro – buildings are built in elliptical structure, as typical of Roman amphitheaters long ago. There you can find many local restaurants and cutest shops. IG picture.
  3. Lucca 16 century Walls – great way to start exploring Lucca is to walk along the old city walls. untitled-2565
  4. The Guingi Tower – Climb up the tower where they have the roof garden!untitled-2544
  5. Acquedotto del Nottolini

We had lovely morning in Lucca and decided to have lunch and quick walk in Pisa.

PISSA

Apart from the tower, there is very little to see in Pisa and the main tourists attractions can be seen on foot under 2 hours.

Obviously, the main attraction is the leaning tower of Pisa. You can climb to the top for €18, we decided to skip it because of long line.

untitled-2616
Walk around the streets of Pisa and hit the local market. You can also take great Instagram pictures along the river. IG pic here.

Hope you enjoyed our video -> link here! If you did, don’t forget to like, comment and subscribe because our next stop is Firenze, Italy.

We are in color heaven! In love with Cinque Terre

Hello world!

We are in Cinque Terre, Italy!

untitled-2330

We drove from Verona  and slept 1 night in La Spezia (Casa Margot).

la spezia
Booking.com

We took a hop on/off train (http://www.cinqueterre.eu.com/en/cinque-terre-timetable) and explored for whole day. Although there are 5 (cinque = five) cities to visit, we only had time to see 4:
1. Monterosso

We got very exited that we arrived in Cinque Terre and spent almost 3 hours in Monterosso. It was begining of February, so trains didn’t go as often and this is the main reason why we didn’t have time to see all 5 cities.

Don’t miss Fegina beach, Il Gigante and old town.
2. Vernazza

Lot of our friends put Vernazza as their favorite of all 5 cities. We expected more because of that. To get picture you see online, you will have to hike – so dress appropriately.

3. Manarola

When you come down to city, walk the clif promenade and have drink at the bar, from where you can see entire city.

untitled-2162
4. Riomaggiore

In Riomaggiore starts the famous Via dell’Amore, which is unfortunately closed for a while now, due to horrible accident that occurred there.

This was our favorite city of all 4 Cinque Terre we visited. Don’t miss Riomaggiore beach!

Hope you enjoyed video (link)! Don’t forget to subscribe, so you can follow us on our adventure! Next stop Lucca & Pisa, Italy.

To crowded to move in Prague

IMG_1437

Hello world!

If you follow our Instagram, YouTube or Facebook; you know we were in Prague this January!

We drove from Brno, Czech Republic; which I about 200 kilometer (125 miles) and 2 hours. This road (D1/E65) is the worst road we took so far! It has two lanes, yes, but right one is full of bumps. We were shaking constantly, like we were off roading. Our advice is drive in left lane. Oh, let’s not forget we paid Czech vignette 17 EUR (for 10 days) and road was terrible!

ACCOMMODATION

Because we booked last minute, we stayed outside city center, everything we liked was booked. Hotel we stayed in was not something we want to advertise, therefore we won’t. However, we can tell you about our neighborhood. We stayed in Prague 4, close to metro station Pražskeho povstani. Metro ride to main city attractions is approx. 10-15 minute.

Booking.com

IMG_1239

ATTRACTIONS

First day we started with Prague Castle. You have metro (line A) & tram (22) which can take you directly at the Castle entrance. We waited approx. 30 minute to get inside Castle, just to realize that was no entrance, but security check. Best parts of Castle are free! You can walk around Castle, see exchanging of guards, go inside St. Vitus Cathedral and see the gardens for free. We climbed up St. Vitus Tower, from where you have breathtaking view of Prague city and Charles Bridge. Only thing that we wanted to see, but ticket was required, was Golden Lane. The tickets lines were so long, which meant more waiting, so we decided to skip it. If you have time to wait in line for tickets (or you were smart to buy online), you can also see inside Royal Palace and St. Georges Basilica.

IMG_1124

From there we took stroll up and down Mala Strana neighborhood. Wandering around we passed St. Nicolas church and ended up following Nerudova street all the way up to the Loreta church.

Close by you can find Strahov Monastery where monks make their own beer (worth of trying if you are beer lover). From Monastery we followed Hunger Wall all the way up to Petrin tower and gardens. You can take funicular downhill, but we decided to walk down to the city trough Petrin hill gardens.

IMG_1224

On our way to Metro station we passed Charles bridge and it was crazy busy with tourists and different vendors. You can see in our YouTube video how Maya is barely navigating GoPro stick.

Second day, we started our adventure in Prague Old Town, visiting all must see places by many bloggers: Old Town Square, Hall and Astronomical clock, State Opera, Old Jewish Cemetery, Spanish Synagogue, statue of Franz Kafka, National Theater, Dancing House. Yes, after this big walk we sat down for lunch!

IMG_1494

As Croatians, we had to go to “U Fleku” restaurant. It is famous, for us, because soccer club Hajduk was founded there in 1911. They have only few items on menu, but all local food very well prepared.

After well-deserved lunch we continued our walk on other side of Vltava River. We climbed up to Letna gardens, from where you can see entire city and have coffee in bar on top.

We took afternoon stroll on Vltava River, where people feed swans. This is unique experience you cannot miss and great Instagram location!

IMG_1433

Close by you can find Franz Kafka museum, John Lennon wall and beautiful Kampa Island.

I see dead people in Brno :)

IMG_0999
Hello world!
We drove from Vienna, Austria; which I about 135 kilometer (85 miles) and 2 hours.
Don’t forget to buy Czech vignette, it costs 17 EUR and it is valid for 10 days.
* Important tip: Czech R. doesn’t accept EUR. Be careful when exchanging money in Czech Republic! Some exchange offices have up to 30% service charge!!! Always ask before you start any currency conversion! Better to change money in your home country.

Booking.com

ATTRACTIONS
We started our Brno adventure in Spilberk Castle (Hrad Špilberk). The main Castle was closed, as most Castles in Czech Republic during the winter – make sure you check opening time online before you start your trip. Top Czech castles are closed till March or April. Luckily Tower and Prison museum in Spilberk were open for visitors (we visited in January).
IMG_0890
Spilberk Tower gives you amazing 360 city view. Entrance fee is 2 EUR per person.
Spilberk Prison was quite experience and we would recommend it if you are visiting Brno. Entrance fee is 4 EUR per person. Before you enter, guides (they have English guides) give you little insight into Prison history, which is very terrifying.
From Castle we strolled down to the center of the city, it is very picturesque walk. We passed Denis Gardens and Obelisk and got in front of Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul. You can climb up the Cathedral tower, entrance fee is 4 EUR per person.
IMG_0858
Brno marked their attractions well, so from Cathedral, just follow the signs to Parnas fountain to get to this beautiful square. Close by, you will find Old Town Hall (Stara Radnice).
If you continue on Masarykova street you will end up at Liberty Square (Namesti Svobody) where you can find interesting Astronomical clock.
From Liberty Square take Rašinova street to St. James church. Under paved floor of St. James Church you will find Brno Ossuary (Kostnice sv. Jakuba). Entrance fee is 5 EUR per person. The second largest ossuary in Europe, wasn’t discovered until 2001 and contains 50,000 skeletons. It is very unique place, which shows high respect to dead.
FOOD & DRINKS
We wanted to see as much as we can, so we only had late lunch/dinner in Starobrno Brewery. Brewery 10-15 minute walk from Liberty Square, in Castle Spilberk direction, down Pekarska street. Diano had “Beer ribs” and Maya “Grilled Losos” which both tasted amazing! We each tried 2 different type of Starobrno beer and total cost was 30 EUR! We definitely recommend this place.

Vienna is not exactly “winter friendly”

Hello world! We are in Vienna, Austria!
You can find video here: Did we see the Maze?
IMG_0710
We drove from Bohinj, Slovenia; which I about 430 kilometer (270 miles) and 4,30 hours. Don’t forget to buy Austrian vinjet, it costs 8,90 EUR and it is valid for 10 days! Additional cost is Karavanke tunnel, sort of border between Slovenia & Austria, which is 7,20 EUR.
ACCOMMODATION
We had hard time finding accommodation within our budget, but that is because we booked last minute and were traveling in holiday season. So, we turned to old partner IBIS hotels. We stayed in their hotel in London and really liked it. Their hotels are pretty much the same all around the world; simple double bed with bathroom. For 3 nights we paid 200 EUR (double room & breakfast).

Booking.com
ATTRACTIONS
We didn’t really prepared for Vienna, so first day we just went to Schonbrunn palace. It is easy and quick to get there, using metro. Just take U4 metro line and get out on Schonbrunn station.
Important note!!! Book your tickets for Palace online!! When we arrived at the Palace, waiting line for Palace tickets was 2,30 hours long. Yes, you read it right; 150 minutes long! Lucky for us, Schonbrunn gardens are public and there is no ticket, no waiting, and no problem.
IMG_0700
The gardens are stunning, but unfortunately for us who travel in winter times, not as attractive as in pictures you see online and many parts were closed (like Schonbrunn Maze which is closed till March and which we were eager to see).
Gloriette, big massive arch building at the top of the garden, is really impressive! The best thing about it, being on hill, you have great city view from there. Second best thing is they have coffee bar inside Gloriette. Espresso cost was 2 EUR, which is quite fair, if you can understand that you are drinking coffee in the place that was used as a dining hall, festival hall and breakfast room for Emperor Franz Joseph I. We found that mind blowing!
From Schonbrunn, we walked to Museum of Technology Wien. It is about 10 minute walk from Palace. Entrance fee per adult is 13 EUR. Museum is super adult and children friendly. I would say it is for everyone who are interested in how things work; from giant engines to hair blowers, music instruments to big boats, chairs to internet. It is place of science, astronomy, urban life, transport, electronic and there are so many things you can do yourself trough interactive experiments. Museum has 4 floors and it is impossible to see it all in one afternoon, like we tried. You can easily leave one day for this museum, if you are interested in learning how things around us, that we use every day, work. It is great place for people who are preparing for apocalypse and those who are learning what we need to do when machines rise against us
We ended our day in Kunsthauswien, museum designed by the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Museum is 10 minute away from the Hundertwasser Haus, apartment block also designed by Hundertwasser. If you are artist or think of yourself as artistry person, if you are in search of unusual and different, this is a place to be. Completely different from rest of the city and refreshing. Entrance fee for Museum is 12 EUR per person, but you can see house block and market for free.
IMG_0830
Second day in Vienna, we decided to go to Stephens cathedral and follow the Ringsstrasse (circular street where most attractions are). First stop Stephens’s cathedral – all we can remember is people dressed in costumes stopping us all the time and asking if we want to see concert, mixed with horse poop smell. We are not quite sure what to think about carriage rides, but if you like it, it goes with barn smell. It was literally like you are in barn, somewhere, not in metropolis city center. As for concert vendors, our advice is avoid any eye contact, hide camera or/and map, act local and uninterested if you want to walk around cathedral like normal person.
Second stop Hofburg Imperial Palace and Albertina – big waiting line again. Important note!! Pre-book you tickets online or go outside holiday season. We had only 2 days in Vienna and didn’t wanted to wait in lines for 1 our 2 hours, so we thought the best solution was just walk around and souk up city vibes. Third stop Rathaus – where are you Rathaus? We got there and huge fence was around park & building. Apparently Rathaus was converted into Christmas ice skate Park, which is fine, but they closed up entire park for Ice Park and you couldn’t see the sculptures, or approach Rathaus from any side. Big disappointment.
At this point, we were thinking to go back to Hotel and chill all day, we weren’t feeling Vienna at all. Luckily, right next to Rathaus is Parliament building; massive big white and gold structure that emerged in front of us looking all powerful. Visitor Center is open for the public and free of charge Monday to Saturday from 9:30 a.m to 4.30 p.m.
IMG_0462
Next stop in Ringsstrasse was National History Museum, Kunsthistorisches Museum and Museumsquartier. If you have time, visit all, if you don’t choose one that you think you’d like the most. Our advice is Kunsthistorisches, because entire building seemed like artwork to us.
On the one side of Museumsquartier passes Mariahilferstrasse, the most famous and longest Vienna shopping street. Just a few minute walk from Mariahilferstrasse you will come to area called Naschmarkt, big food and product market.
From Naschmarkt we continued onto Karlsplatz, which ended up being one more disappointment. Entire area was filled with wooden planks (probably dismantled Christmas market houses), iron fences down on the ground and pine trees „leftovers“. Such a sad image of the Karlsplatz.
We continued to Belvedere Museum & Park, which is 20 minute walk; or you can take a tram „Opernring/Steig D“ from Opera House. Opera House is 2 minute from Karlsplatz and gives you a chance to see Opera House too.
IMG_0577
To see Upper & Lower Belvedere you will pay 20 EUR per person. However, to see the gardens is free, like in Schonbrunn. Most of the garden was under maintenance and not as attractive, but the entire impression of Belvedere is magical. When you get there, you can really feel royal vibes and sense of 17 century luxury.
We finished our journey in Stadtpark. It is nice city park, family friendly. So close to city and again you have a feeling like you are not in a city at all. Seeing sunset while looking at ducks play in the pond really recharges your battery… well that and some food. Close by are some nice restaurants, so let me tell you about that now.
FOOD & DRINKS
Naschmarkt – here you can find nice finger food options, such as sandwiches, hotdogs, fruits, etc. It is good place to bring in some valuable nutrients to your body and continue your city walk. Total cost 25 EUR.
Bierreither – we found it on TripAdvisor offline app (which you can download before trip) and it seemed like nice welcoming local place. They had big beer choice and good menu. We ordered Frittaten soup, which is basically soup with pancakes. It sounded weird, but it was delicious! Diano went for famous Wiener snitzel and I took Chili noodles (which are more like gnocchi, but it was very tasty and spicy). Total cost with 4 beers, 46 EUR.
Junn Bar and Kitchen– sushi restaurant where we had the best sashimi!! Our recommendation is “Chef’s favorite lunch” and “Fishermen’s Lunch”, with which you get soup, main, salad and dessert. Total cost with 2 beers, 36 EUR
Mel’s Craft Beers & Dinner – Diano is beer lover, sooo we don’t have to tell you we loved this place the best. They have 300 beer options! You come there and you are star struck, unable to order just one beer. Maya went for Mel’s tasting plate; which is 6 shoots of beer. It costs 10 EUR and you get to try 6 beers of your choice. Maya’s favorite pick is Newcastle Brown Ale, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Bevog Rudeen Black Ipa. Diano liked Thornbridge Vienna Ipa and Collabs. Make sure you try at least one when you come there! They also offer various food options, as well as beer bread. Total cost approx. 50 EUR, but keep in mind we had 30 EUR drinks (4 bottles and Maya’s tasting plate) included in that cost LOL.
Beer Lovers shop – this is shop, shop for beer’s only, so if you are not a fan, maybe you should skip this part….unless you like cider, because they have that too. That place is like Beer wonderland. They offer 1.300 different type of beer: lagers, pale ale, porter, stout, pilsner, etc. Beer for all tastes and pockets! We bought most of our male souvenirs there and cost didn’t exceeded 30 EUR.
Hope this blog helps at least one person traveling to Vienna in near future. Let me know if you need any more information on anything in comment below. If you like it feel free to give it „thumbs up“ or share it.
Next time, we are taking you to Brno, Czech Republic!

We want to go back to Bohinj!

IMG_0227
Hello world! We are in Bohinj, Slovenia!
We drove from Ljubljana to Bohinj, which I about 80 kilometer (50 miles) and 1 hour drive. Don’t forget to buy Slovenia vinjete, it costs 15 EUR and it is valid for 7 days!
Read more in previous blog.

Booking.com

ACCOMMODATION
We booked lovely, family owned, Hostel Pr’ Pristavc. It is right on a side of the road, towards Vogel mountain top. As we were coming late, by dark, this was priority for us. We didn’t want to drive around woods in dark. Second best thing about this hostel is that it is also the restaurant, therefore we didn’t have to search around village for food! Our host Marko, recommended Slovenian specialty plate: Kranjska sausage, white cabbage & roasted potato. It came hot on pan and it was so delicious!
Our room was simple (bed, closet, toilet and balcony), but good money value (approx. 40 EUR per room/night with breakfast included). Make sure you bring toiletries, as they have only hand soap & towels in bathroom.
ATTRACTIONS
We were recommended by friends to go to Waterfall Savica, but Marko (our host) advised us to skip it. It didn’t rain in a while, therefore there was almost no waterfall, just small drop. We immediately Instagram it and saw recent pictures of it – Marko was right, this wasn’t time to visit this waterfall! Ask your hosts to recommend you what to visit! Marko mentioned their high season is in spring, so that might be right time to visit Waterfall Savica.
Since we definitely wanted to see waterfall, Marko advised we should visit Waterfall Mostnica instead. This was right choice! The drop, the color, the river, the canyon – we loved it all!
IMG_0291
Directions: drive to Stara Fuzina village and turn left before bridge – follow Mostinca waterfall sign (Not Mostnice naselje). When you start climbing the mountain road follow “Voje restaurant” (or Voje slap) sings. When you reach that restaurant – park there (it is allowed), since from there only residents can drive onward. It is about 30-40 minute walk to the Mostnica Waterfall. Path is circuit, so you can come back to your car different way (we liked that path better). It is lovely 1,30 hour walk. River has such a beautiful clear emerald color. On the path you can find river cascades and stone & wood bridges. Little houses in woods look like you stepped into fairy tale book.
From waterfall you can follow the path to the top, unfortunately, we didn’t have time for it.
IMG_0182
In Stara Fužina, we stopped at the Bohinj lake. The peace and serenely is unbelievable. It was foggy, so it made it look magical. Apparently during spring/summer season you can swim, kayak & do rafting around Bohinj lake. We are thinking about trying that this year 🙂.
What you can do while in Bohinj, any time of the year, is go to Vogel mountain top with cable car. There are signs on the road, so you can easily find it and park right at the entrance (no fee). Return ticket per person costs 14 EUR. Triglav national park looks surreal from the top! It was foggy, so we saw fog levitating on the Bohinj lake. There wasn’t much snow (on DEC 27th), but there were 2 ski lanes open. We just walked around the top and goofed around, what you can see in VIDEO.
IMG_0193
We made 20 minute stop at Bled Lake and city. It is touristic place than Bohinj. You can rent a boat and row around the lake. We saw lot of people doing that and having so much fun. When in Bled, we were told to try Kremšnita and so we did. It is nice local desert you can enjoy.

How come we didn’t visit Ljubljana before?

Hello world!
We took a car from Split, passed Zagreb in Croatia and now we are in Slovenia!
Video is already on our YouTube channel: Ljubljana video

Booking.com
ACCOMMODATION

Since we drove approx. 460 kilometers (280 miles) and explored all day, we needed sleep. We booked hotel in Ljubljana city center. For double room, with NO breakfast, we paid 55 EUR. There are numerous hotels & hostels in Ljubljana for good money value, only problem we had was find hotel with their own parking. Most hotels, that were available, had public garage close by, so did ours. Parking Kozolec ended up being warm, clean & safe public underground garage. Price per day is 12 EUR.
No breakfast in hotel – no problem. In bakery on Prešeren square you get sandwich & juice for 1,85 EUR. Now we were ready for adventure!
ATTRACTIONS
First stop Ljubljana castle. We usually walk everywhere, but we’ve chosen to take funicular this time. Entrance to Ljubljana funicular is at Krekov square. One way price per person is 2.5 EUR. Entrance fee for castle is 7,50 EUR. In that price you basically pay entrance to castle tower & medieval projection. If you are on budget, walking around castle is free and enough.
We went back down to the city trough the forest path – would definitely recommend it! It is such a nice stroll down. We took a path to Gornji trg (Upper Square). At the end of the forest you will find cute old houses and narrow streets, which will take you strait to the city.
We took a stroll in old town, along the Ljubljanica river. Must see are Ljubljana bridges: Čevljarski, Mesarski, Zmajski (Dragon) and Tromstovje (Triple bridge). Ljubljana city center is small, so you have time to soak it all in, really good. This entire area is buzzing with shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants. Still, we decided to try Open Market food, near St.Nicholas cathedral. We ordered Pljeskavica with Kajmak & Kranjska sausage with cabbage, what goes nice with local beer (total approx. 15 EUR).
We spent little time in Tivoli City Park. If you are nature lover, like Maya is, it is not enough. Park begins in city center, but don’t be fooled it is Ljubljana’s largest park, you can have a nice full day hike in Tivoli woods.
Little bit outside city center (approx. 10-15 min walk) you can find artistic block of buildings, called Metelkova. Streets are empty in the daylight, but during night it is apparently social center with many bars and art galleries. We loved vivid, colored, graffiti walls; rusty sculptures and concrete park. It is perfect Instagram place!
We finished our trip with quick sip of coffee at Neboticnik, bar on 12th floor. Prices are fair and you will most definitely enjoy the view!
Our next stop is Bohinj, Slovenija!

Holiday road trip begins in Zagreb

Every year we take a trip around winter holidays, this year was no different.
After a lot (a lot) consideration & budgeting we decided to take a road trip! We packed our bags in a day, took a car from Maya’s parents (thank you, by the way) and started our Europe trip from Split (Croatia).
First stop ZAGREB – We took quick walk around Zagreb city center.
You may have seen our Zagreb video already?
We started at Kamenita vrata and climbed our way to Klovićevi dvori. On plateau Gradec you can find the most amazing view of city and Cathedral.
Walking around we ended up in front of St.Marko church, famous for it’s coat of arms of Zagreb and Croatia, Dalmatia & Slavonia kingdom.
Very close to church is Mestrović museum, so we decided to visit it. Entrance fee is approx. 3 EUR, which is very acceptable. His work is really impressive and worth of checking out.
Stroll down trough StrossMarte will get you to Tunnel Grič, just recently opened. There is no entrance fee.
Crazy SciFi glasses & mirrors, you see in video, are from Illusion museum, which is fun break from all the walking. There was no entrance fee, which was nice surprise.
We were lucky that Zagreb has the Best Christmas market in Europe, so there was so much activity after dark. We had time to visit main square, Zrinjevac & Tomislavac square (which also has Ice Park), but there is so much more to it.
Our next stop is Ljubljana, Slovenia!
