Budapest TOP attractions

Hello World!

As you already know, we are in Budapest! Previous blog was about Where to stay in Budapest (LINK), but this one will give you more insight to Budapest TOP attractions. Without further a do, let’s start with our Budapest 2018 picks!

Heroes’ Square
Take the M1 metro line and it will get you right in front of this glorious Budapest square. This is definitely my favorite square in Budapest, maybe even Europe. Hungarians have commemorated their important National leaders, by building the statues of them, as well as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Somehow, we always end up visiting it by night and we love it with all the lights turned on.

DianoMaya_Budapest-1748

DianoMaya_Budapest-1752

Near Heroes’ Square are you can also find Vajdahunyad Castle, outdoor “City Park Ice Rink” and Szechenyi Baths and Pool.
Entrance fee to visit the Courtyard of the Vajdahunyad Castle is free. However, should you wish to visit Museum of Agriculture residing in Vajdahunyad Castle, entrance fee is approx. 5 EUR.
City Park Ice Rink season 2017/2018 is, unfortunately, closed.

You know that this trip was all about finding best ways to “explore while relaxing”. That is the main reason why we have chosen to chill a little in Szechenyi Baths and PoolThese baths have 18 pools, from which 2 outdoor pools, 10 saunas and massages. Of course, we tried the outdoor ones even though it was -5 Celsius outside. Thermal outdoor pool was heated on 28 Celsius, so we ran out to the pool with nothing but a swimsuit on.

DCIM100GOPROG0057224.

DCIM100GOPROG0027158.

TIPS:

  • bring a towel, swimsuit and slippers (otherwise, you can rent there)
  • you can buy your bath ticket in advance and get discount – HERE
  • if you are buying the tickets at the Baths, after 7 pm, tickets are more affordable
  • book a locker or a cabin to put your belongings (you will be given a silicon waterproof wristband, which looks like a watch)

Chain Bridge
Go across the Danube river to the Buda side, over the Chain Bridge. The most popular bridge in town and also the most crowded. Lion’s guarding the bridge entrance are impressive every time we see them. Don’t you agree?

DianoMaya_Budapest-1638

DianoMaya_Budapest-1188474

So, once you are on Buda side you can walk up to Buda Castle or take historical cable car up. Buda Castle Funicular runs every 10 minutes and it is a fairly cheap way (approx. 5 EUR) to save your legs 🙂

DianoMaya_Budapest-1701

Buda Castle
This historical castle and palace complex of the Hungarian kings in Budapest, currently hosts Hungarian National Gallery, Budapest History Museum, Hungarian Presidential Palace, Matthias Church, Holy Trinity Statue and Fisherman’s Bastion.

Parliament of Budapest
For me, this is the most impressive building in entire Budapest. It lies on Danube river, on Kossuth Lajos Square and it is apparently the largest building in Hungary. You can reach the Parliament with Tram line 2 (which is also the scenic route tram).

DianoMaya_Budapest-1655

DianoMaya_Budapest-1648

Wanna see it by night? Check out our Budepest 2016 blog -> HERE.
Also, try to get picture of the Parliament from the Buda side of Danube river, that way you can really capture it’s all glory!

DianoMaya_Budapest-1667

Close to the Parliament, when you walking back to Chain bridge, you can find “Shoes on the Danube Promenade Memorial”. On the other side of the Parliament, you can walk towards Margaret Island & Bridge, the only “3 exit bridge” we know!

Find out more about Margaret Island in our Budapest 2016 blog -> HERE

Citadella
To get the best Budapest city views go to Citadella! This fort is located on the top of Gellért Hill, with Liberty Statue monument on it’s front.

DCIM111MEDIADJI_0015.JPG

DCIM111MEDIADJI_0030.JPG

Liberty Bridge
When you walk down from Gellért Hill you will pass by several monuments, Cave church and Hotel Gellért  (which also has Baths, apparently second best in Budapest) and you will end up in front of Liberty Bridge. Central Market Hall is right across the bridge, on the other side of Danube, and Hungarian National Museum is 10 minute walk from there.

Sometimes, it is just worth of getting lost in the city. You can easily walk all around most popular attractions, if you prepare well. So, take that Budapest map, circle all top attractions you’ve liked so far and make a plan how to cover it all!
Public transport is also very easy to use. Take Tram 2 for scenic route, which passes by most Budapest attractions on Pest side. We also recommend using Metro lines. After a day, you will feel like you know all the stops, lines and how to use them. Don’t we all just want to feel like local? Wandering around the city, without chasing any attraction, just soaking up the city vibe and admiring it, is the best feeling in the world!

St. Stephen’s Basilica
This time we only passed by St. Stephen’s Basilica, on our way to look for some food. You can enter the church, but there is a fee. You can climb up to the tower and find a nice view, but there is a fee. You get my point? Other attractions, with views, in Budapest are free, plus the view is not as stunning as from Buda Castle or Citadella.

DianoMaya_Budapest-1731

Now, let’s jump to some juicy stuff! We are always hungry, but we never find time to eat. So, when we eat, we eat goooood. We loved MenzaSzimpla Kert last time when we were in Budapest, so decision was easy – eat, drink & repeat!

Where to stay in Budapest?

Hello World!

We are in Budapest again!!! We have had visited it before (Budapest 2016 blog) and it became one of our favorite European cities. This time we were more focused on where to stay than what to visit. But, don’t worry I will also write about Budapest TOP attractions in next blog. So, don’t forget to follow, like, etc., etc…

If you have been following us on social media, you know we are on Winter Road Trip for a week already and we needed a good place where we can really rest.
I remember, last time we were booking accommodation in Budapest, I spent days on the Internet, Booking.com & Airbnb, trying to figure out where to stay. We didn’t know, at the time, that Buda side is on hill, with very quiet & romantic vibe, and that Pest side is actually much closer to historic sites, restaurants, shopping areas and the nightlife. It was all very confusing, but now we know and you know!

This time we went on Google.Maps and looked for hotel in city area we wanted to stay. Didn’t know you could do that? Well, now you know that too. Try it -> here.

We needed “home away from home” so we reached out to Fraser Residence, one of the most famous aparthotels, in Budapest. Their hotel manager, Mr. Alain Goetschel, has kindly given us Two Bedroom Apartment, on 7th floor of the building. Before we start going into the details, let me tell you that this is the biggest apartment we ever stayed in!

DianoMaya_Fraser_Budapest-1578

So, apartment is, like I said, very spacious and equipped with dining and kitchen areas. In the kitchen we found everything we needed: fridge, cooker, microwave, kettle, dishes and even a washing machine with washing liquid.
We received welcome fruit platter, still & sparkling water and some juices from Alain, so we decided to sit down and refresh in the dining area first. Btw. that table can easily fit a group of six adults.

DianoMaya_Fraser_Budapest-1602

DianoMaya_Fraser_Budapest-1600

Living area has a home entertainment system, but we used it mostly for our “laptop club”. It is a perfect place to get some work done, if you are working remotely, as we do. Getting comfortable on the couch, editing videos while watching “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” on TV, those were our goals!

DianoMaya_Fraser_Budapest-1607

DianoMaya_Fraser_Budapest-1595

In our rooms we had comfy beds and plenty of storage space. I found bathrobes and slippers in our closet. I also found a safe box there, not like you need it, but some people feel safer to put their belongings in a safe place.

DianoMaya_Fraser_Budapest-1582

We had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in our apartment. Apartment was definitely big enough for 6 adults. Each bathroom had it’s own bathtub and L’Occitane bathroom amenities (shower gel, body milk & shampoo and conditioner) replaced daily. We used only one bedroom, obviously, as we are a couple. However, decided to each have our own bathroom. My own private bathroom? I felt like super star!

DianoMaya_Fraser_Budapest-1590

In apartment you can also find a washer and dryer machine, walk in closet, hairdryer, iron & ironing board and it has daily housekeeping service. Everything was so nice and clean! Every day, we would walk out on our balcony and enjoy the view from our 7th floor. Oh, I didn’t mention our apartment has a balcony? Yes, it does!

DCIM111MEDIADJI_0002.JPG

DianoMaya_Fraser_Budapest-1611

Fraser Residence has 24/7 reception, hotel parking spaces and, let’s not forget, everyday breakfast. It is located very close to the Corvin Plaza and Mall, where you can find exchange office, to change your money into Hungarian Forint (you will need those) and find wide range of restaurants, from Hungarian Bistro and Burger & Hummus bar, to Sushi place.

So, if you are looking for a luxury apartments, your “home away from home”, Fraser is the best choice! Let me just remind you that we are not paid to say this. We really had the best stay and enjoyed great hospitality in this aparthotel.

Find Fraser Residence website -> HERE
If you are a “Booking.com” kind of person, you can book it -> HERE

DCIM111MEDIADJI_0005.JPG

Corvin Quarter, where Fraser is located, is a trendy area. However, to get to the old town you need to jump on a tram & train. To get to Chain Bridge, take Train M3, then switch to Tram 2 route, which offers a nice scenic ride around city’s top locations. Well…we will talk about that more in our next blog.

On the road with Avax again!

Hello world!

We are on the road again! We left our comfortable “Boutique Apartments Possonium”  and jumped into our Suzuki. We have referral link for Booking.com with which you get 10% back -> https://www.booking.com/s/49_8/maivce99

Ok, now that we got discounts out of the way, I can tell you where we are going 🙂
We are going on 15 minute drive from Bratislava to Devin Castle, wohooo!

DianoMaya_roadtrip2-1177790

Devin Castle is a castle in Devin, so obviously. It is up on hill that overviews Danube and Morava river. If you have been reading my blogs, you know I am fascinated by water, big water like rivers, seas and oceans. I have deep respect and admiration for big waters and in this place we have two big rivers crossing paths, amazing!
Well, it also has huge Neolithic Castle on top, oldest one in Slovakia.

DCIM111MEDIADJI_0021.JPG

DCIM111MEDIADJI_0016.JPG

DCIM111MEDIADJI_0004.JPG

Entrance fee for Devin Castle is 5 EUR and it takes you into the walls to the top. The castle stands just inside Slovak territory on the frontier between Slovakia and Austria. How crazy is that? We could actually see fields of Austria from the top.

The second thing, very much worth of seeing in Devin, is a public path along the river bank. There are several hikes and bikes trails around the castle. We were there in a beginning of March, so river Morava was throwing in huge chunks of ice into Danube. River shore, in some places, looks like it could be beach during the summer, though.

DianoMaya_roadtrip2-1352

DianoMaya_roadtrip2-1357

There are few restaurants in Devin, so if you have time try fine Slovak cuisine. We didn’t have time. We spent all day walking around Devin castle, it was cold, so there was just a two of us wandering around. We completely lost the track of time, that eventually, it was our time to leave, not to eat.

DianoMaya_roadtrip2-1363

We are driving to Budapest and can’t wait to see it again. Remember, we were there in 2016, it was our first blog ever!! Check it out -> HERE.

Bratislava TOP attractions

Hello world!

As you already know from our previous blog, we are in Bratislava, Slovakia. Read “Where to stay in Bratislava” blog -> HERE. I promised that the next blog will be about attractions and where to eat, so let’s start with some Bratislava views!

-> Slavin is memorial monument and military cemetery in Bratislava. Very big way to commemorate thousands of Soviet Army soldiers who fell during World War II, if you ask us. Slavin is situated in a very rich villa quarter, on top of a hill, which offers amazing views of the city and Bratislava Castle.

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1146

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1177546

DianoMaya_roadtrip2-1177553

-> Bratislava Castle is is the main castle of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. It was built in the 9th century and, since then, it crowned 11 kings and 8 queens! Crazy, right? Nowadays, it is a home of the Slovak National Museums. Entrance fee is approx. 10 EUR. If you are not a “museum kind of person”, it is still cool, free and easy to walk up to the Castle. There is beautiful park surrounding the Castle and it, obviously, offers amazing city and Danube river views.

DCIM111MEDIADJI_0022.JPG

DCIM111MEDIADJI_0014.JPG

-> UFO Observation Deck is the third, and last, city view point that we saw. It is located just a few minute walk from the Old Town, on the other side of the New Bridge. The bridge walk is actually very fun as well! Crossing the Danube river is always impressive, because Danube is glorious. Am I the only one who thinks Danube is glorious?? Anyhow, walk there on one side and return, to the city, from the other side of bridge, because that way you can see cities from both sides of bridge.
UFO Deck is actually built in New Bridge (Nový most, or also called Most SNP). You go to the deck in the elevator 95 meters (312 feet) up, which costs approx. 7 EUR (for adult). They said UFO offers views up to 100 kilometer distance, so we had to try it!

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1220

Ok, now let’s go to the Old Town. There are few main attractions which you can walk around:
-> St. Michael’s Gate/Tower, the only city gate which is preserved since Medieval times. Inside the tower is Museum of Weapons and City Fortifications. Under the gate you can find Zero kilometer stone, which counts the distance from Bratislava to other cities in the world.

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1170.jpg

-> Old Town Hall, on Main Square, is a home to Museum of City History which has examples of Medieval torture instruments, in the basement. You can also check out Primatial Palace, Old Building of the Slovak National Theatre and St. Martin’s Cathedral which are located in the Old Town area.

It is amazing just getting lost in streets of Bratislava. We decided to skip entering museums and had fun wandering around the Old town.

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1235

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1243

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1177644

-> Let’s not forget Bratislava’s got quite a few statues around the old town: Cumil, Schone Naci, Napoleon soldier and Paparazzi. They are waiting you, patiently, to take photo with them. Sometimes, being the tourist is so much fun!

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1177597

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1177587

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1193

-> Grassalkovich Palace and Gardens, is official residence of Slovak President. In front of the palace there is a fountain in a shape of the Earth as a symbol of freedom and palace is guarded by Presidential guards. They have daily changes of the guards, similar to the well-known Queen’s Guard change in London.

Those are our favorites! What other attraction would you recommend to add to our list? While you think of that, let us show you our TOP picks to EAT in Bratislava!

RE:FRESH restaurant and club in Bratislava Old Town. Their restaurant offers quality meat food, but they have also very innovative vegetarian and vegan menus. Finally place where everybody can eat whatever they want! Well…whatever is on the menu and they want it 🙂
They also have night club in the basement. Check their party schedule before you come to Bratislava.

Where to stay in Bratislava?

Hello world!

We are in Bratislava!! We drove from Sopron late at night and went strait to hotel, so let’s start with our accommodation before we stroll around the city.

DianoMaya_roadtrip2-1177738

We stayed at very chic “Boutique Apartments Possonium” which are located just a 10 minute walk from the old town. Possonium is actually 19th century family owned house, completely renovated into Apartments. Possonium has free parking spaces right in front of the entrance, where we left our Avax Suzuki for couple of days and enjoyed the comfort of our accommodation.

We had a chance to change rooms during our stay and we took it! So, first we got “Wine room”, which is obviously room dedicated to wines. Yes, each room is dedicated to a different drink.

DianoMaya_roadtrip2-07

Bathroom was modern and new, shared, just outside our room. Room was chic and cozy, with beds in upstairs gallery accessible by ladder. Beds were just two mattresses with linen, but very comfy.

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1110

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1133

Downstairs, we had couch where we’ve set up a little “laptop club”. We are far behind on our blogs and videos, so we had to work even during our Winter Road Trip. If you are planing to become a travel blogger, keep in mind it is not always play, there is a lot of work hidden behind the scenes. But, do start a travel blog, we love finding new inspiring people! Are you already travel blogger? Send us links to your blogs!

Ok, after some work, we decided to stay in, since it was cold winter night outside (-12 C). Lucky for us Possonium has underground bar! Perfect to warm up and meet new people!

DianoMaya_roadtrip2-1177725

DianoMaya_roadtrip2-1177720

DianoMaya_roadtrip2-1177716

Our second room was much bigger and dedicated to Vodka.
“Vodka room” has 4 beds, from which two of them also accessible by ladder :). Is it just me or it is so much fun to climb up to your bed?? Me, Tarzan.
In addition, this room also has a kitchen and private bathroom. It is a stylish place with all the comforts of home.

You can find their web page -> HERE.

If you are “Booking.com” kind of person you can book -> HERE.

On May 1st they open Possonium Garden Bar! Make sure you find a chair for sipping juices in the garden in the center of Bratislava. They have couple of cats running around the garden, hope you won’t mind them 🙂

The most loyal city of Hungary

Hello World,

Do you remember we are on our Winter Road Trip? We started with visiting Otavice, Drniš and Knin in Croatia, and now we are in Sopron, HUNGARY. Why, you ask? We are driving up to Bratislava with Avax rent a car and our followers on Instagram suggested some locations on the way, which we loved and added to our itinerary. This blog will explain why you should visit it too :).

Let’s start with some directions. We drove from Zagreb and decided to take road trough Hungary. Second option is that you drive trough Slovenia and Austria. However you decide to drive to Sopron, duration of this trip is approx. 4 hours, for both options.
Find directions -> HERE

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1177414

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1177421

Don’t forget you have to buy vignette for Slovenia and Hungary. You can buy Hungary vignette very easy online -> HERE
Otherwise, buy it right at the borders, they have cameras on the road everywhere!

SLOVENIA: 7 day vignette 2018                                                                             Price 15 EUR
HUNGARY: 10 day vignette 2018                                                                           Price 12 EUR

In Sopron we parked our car close to city center, on public car park. Parking fee is from 1-1,50 EUR per hour, which you can pay with cash, chipcard or mobile.
From there we walked towards Firewatch Tower and started our city exploration.

2DianoMaya_roadtrip-1088

The Firewatch Tower is the symbol of Sopron. It dates from 13th century, when it was used as northern gate. In 17th century it served as watchtower, alerting the city about fires, invaders and, most importantly, wine caravans. Nowadays, it is the symbol of allegiance, in memory of referendum in 1921 when Sopron and eight neighboring villages expressed their wish to remain part of Hungary (instead of Austria). Our follower on Instagram @morciandszami said that is the reason they call it “the most loyal city of Hungary”.

Entrance fee to the top is approx. 4 EUR per person (adult). We climbed up 200 spiral stairs and exited to the most beautiful view of the city.

2DianoMaya_roadtrip-1080

2DianoMaya_roadtrip-1074

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1069

When you exit the Tower you will find yourself at Main Square. There we found Holy Trinity column, Storno House, City Hall and Goat Church (yes, goat). This Gothic church gets its unusual name from the legend that the church was built with goat herd treasure.

2DianoMaya_roadtrip-1086

We walked along the Bailey Promenade and admired the houses and city walls. Sopron was for a long time a walled city, now there are only sections of the city’s old fortifications remains.

If you are hungry, there are few pubs, restaurants and shops. We weren’t, so we decided to go outside city. Couple of minutes drive and you should see lake Lake Neusiedl, apparently one of the warmest lakes in Europe.

We found Fertorakos Quarry and Cave Theater on Google Maps and decided to explore it. Unfortunately, it was closed. We took our Mavic pro to explore it for us. We were very disappointed it was closed, because it looks very interesting. Don’t you agree?

DCIM100MEDIADJI_0065.JPG

We continued our road trip to Esterházy castle. We tried village road and we totally recommend it! Nature is so unbelievable and peaceful.

Esterházy castle is a palace in Fertod sometimes called “The Hungarian Versailles“. It was built by Hungarian Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy. There is second family castle in Austria called Schloss Esterházy; so be careful when putting directions into Google maps, sometimes it sends you to Austrian castle.

We were completely alone, because it was closed. This is the biggest problem with our winter road trips. Most of things we want to see are either closed or completely under the snow. We are seriously considering going south to Greece for road trip 2019. What do you suggest?

Road Trip begins in Croatia with Avax

Hello World,

We have been announcing our road trip on Instagram for a while and now it is finally here! This is our road trip plan: Split – Otavice – Drniš – Knin – Zagreb – Sopron – Bratislava – Budapest (from which we are flying to Izrael for 4 days) – Varaždin – Split.
Does it sound good?

So, we started our journey in Split, Croatia. Avax rent a car agency in Split had kindly given us their newest Suzuki Swift, which passed only 20 kilometers. Their only motto is to provide quality service at a  competitive price and they lived up to our expectation. Their staff was amazing upon pick up and we managed to get discount for you guys!

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1177177.jpg

As planned, our first stop was Otavice village or to be exact Ivan Meštrović Mausoleum. If you didn’t know, Meštrović was renowned sculptor, painter and architect of the 20th century. His work is exhibited around European and American museums & galleries, including the Vatican. I read that his art is compared to art of Michelangelo. If you are art geek, Google for more information :). Anyhow, Meštrović is buried in his childhood home in Otavice, in this Mausoleum, which he built for his family. If I understood right (please, correct me if I am wrong) Mausoleum is also the church of the Most Holy Redeemer, which makes it great  mixture of memorial, artistic and sacred.

Find directions to get to Mausoleum-> HERE

Next stop is only 10 minutes from Otavice, in a village called Drniš. Above the canyon of Čikola river firmly stands the Gradina fortress. It is not only historically important, but it also offers breathtaking views of the city, canyon, fields and river. See for yourself!

Afterwards, we drove to Knin fortress, apparently the second largest fortress in Europe located in Knin city. We parked our Avax Suzuki right in front of the entrance. The gate of the Fort was open and there was nobody at the ticket office, is it possible that the entrance is free? I don’t think so, because I remember that I paid entrance ticket before, when I was there with my friend Marina back in 2006. So, if you decide to go, prepare some cash with you, just in case somebody decides to open ticket office :).

We were completely alone, walking around and having fun exploring different watch towers. The wind was so strong that day that it almost blew me from the fortress walls while I was taking photos. From the Fort you can see entire Knin city at the palm of your hand, on one side, and Krka river on the other side. Keep your eyes open, because from the Fort you can also see Krcic waterfall, our next and final destination of this week.

Directions to Krčić waterfall-> HERE

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1177370

We parked our car next to small bridge and walked to the waterfall. Krčić is a mighty waterfall with a single drop of 22m. I remember seeing on Instagram people taking pictures right below the waterfall, on wooden bridge, and we planned to do the same.  It was super windy, so waterfall looked very misty. We thought it would be fun to walk from one side of that bridge to the other, right below the waterfall. It was, fun and WET! We were completely washed by Krčić. I can’t wait to show you our video guys! Diano will edit the footage as soon as we come back to Croatia (in 2 weeks) and we will share it on our YouTube and Facebook pages. Don’t forget to turn post notifications ON, so you can get a notification every time we post a photo or video on our pages.

DianoMaya_roadtrip-1062

From Knin we drove strait to Zagreb and spent a night at our friends house. Trips up north are always fun because we get to see our friends who live in Croatian capital. This time we won’t be exploring Zagreb, we are just passing trough. Our story will continue next week from Sopron, Hungary.

Hope our journey will help you plan your road trip or at least day trip in Dalmatia inland. If you liked this story, don’t forget to:

Skiing weekend

Hello world!

Finally some real winter is here, so I went to nearest skiing mountain to ski. Every year I go skiing with my friend Tea. First year there was just us, two girls and skiing slopes. This year it was 11 people and we went with 3 cars! The more the merrier!

DianoMaya_Kupres-1166912

Diano is not a skier, so he stayed in Split and worked on our upcoming “Road Trip” plan. We are leaving on FEB 23rd and will update you on that very soon.

Only 2 hour car ride from Split there is Kupres ski resort, in Bosnia & Herzegovina, with 13 km of slopes. We took Split – Trilj – Kamensko – Tomislavgrad – Šujica – Kupres route. You can find directions -> HERE.
When you approach Kupres, turn off main road towards AdriaSki Hotel below Čajuša mountain. You will find parking right below ski lifts. There you can par car, buy ski pass, rent an equipment or sign up for skiing school.

Price for adult ski pass is approx. 15 EUR (120 HRK or 30 KM), for children is approx. 12 EUR (90 HRK or 23 KM). Very budget friendly if you ask us.

DianoMaya_Kupres-1166945

Beside skiing and snowboarding you can go sledding, rent a ski motorcycle or just have a drink in numerous cafes located right next to the slopes.

DianoMaya_Kupres-1166957

If you follow our Instagram stories, you know that Tea and I got stuck on ski lift for 40 minutes, seriously considering to jump down from ski lift. It wasn’t scary, we were just cold and wanted to ski badly. You can see full story on our Instagram profile -> HERE.

DianoMaya_Kupres-1166909

If you are planing a 2 days weekend ski trip, there is one more ski mountain nearby, called Raduša. You can book accommodation close by and check out that slopes next day. We were surprised how budget friendly are house rents. We found house for 6 people, for 1 night, for 50 EUR in total. Unbelievable, right?

Find accommodation -> HERE

DianoMaya_Kupres-1166928

It feels like winter has just arrived, so I hope we might go skiing to Bosnia&Herzegovina again. I am not putting my skies in the basement just jet.

In the meantime, we are preparing for the “Road Trip” and working on “DianoMaya merchandise line”. I’ve just uploaded new picture from Kupres. Check it out -> HERE.

Kupres_DianoMaya_MicPic

I cannot describe how happy we are about “DianoMaya merchandise line”. I wanted to put our pictures on products for so long and it is finally here! Tell us, would you rather have phone case or framed print? We might do a giveaway soon 🙂

Looking forward to reading your feedback!

Does it have to be perfect?

Hello World?

Where are you now? I am in office, writing another blog to you. This is a story about how we were waiting for a perfect day to drive outside city. Unfortunately, that day never came. Our story begins how we went anyway :).

We drove from Split to Sinj, with our car, small car, tiny Smart Car. It serves us so well. Maybe we should name it? Any suggestions?

Anyways, it was raining, so we decided to skip too much walking around town and went strait to “Old Town”, old fortress above Sinj city. The people of Sinj simply call the Town.

DCIM100MEDIADJI_0011.JPG

We walked trough most beautiful forest up. On the way up, famous Croatian Sculptors made Stations of the Cross, a 14-step Catholic devotion that commemorates Jesus Christ‘s last day on Earth as a man. Sculptures are pretty good actually. We were discussing difference in sculpting man and female body, these sculptors definitely paid attention to woman’s body on “Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem”, 8th station. Go check it out 🙂

Sinj_Croatia_DianoMaya-1166834

Sinj_Croatia_DianoMaya-1166808

In the center of the fortress is Sanctuary of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj. One of the largest celebration of Feast of Assumption of the blessed virgin Mary is in Sinj, on 15 August. Pilgrims from all over the world come to Sinj with only one aim – to kneel with hands clasped in front of the Miraculous Madonna of Sinj.

It also offers amazing town view!

Rain started, croup actually, so we took our drone down and got back on the road. We were looking for Kosinac spring. It took us a wile to find it in a rain. If you decide to go there, let us help you with some instructions: HERE.

Now, let us show you why you should go there!

Sinj_Croatia_DianoMaya-1166854

Sinj_Croatia_DianoMaya-1166861

Sinj_Croatia_DianoMaya-1166867

Legend says, whoever drinks from Kosinac spring, his soul will be filled with new energy. You can believe in legends, or not, but we came with positive attitude and we are leaving with one!

Rain just didn’t want to stop falling. Well, what can you do? Does it really have to be perfect? There is so much beauty around us, so if you really want to travel every day explore your surroundings even on a rainy day. I don’t just mean literal rain, the water drops from the sky. I also mean, when you have rain on your mind & soul. Go outside! Travel every day in the “micro world”, it is beautiful and it is waiting for you!

That said, thank you for being so wonderful and reading my story till the end. Tell me, have you ever written similar story?

Why visit Omiš, Croatia?

Hello world!

Remember our rule to always “go outside”? This time that rule took us to Omiš, Croatia.
Are you #teamgooutside?

We took a car and drove from Split, via Poljička cesta (road). There is always traffic on main road to Omiš, so we recommend using this alternative road.
DIRECTIONS: After Stobreč city, turn to Žrnovnica and follow the road to Omiš. See instructions -> HERE.

Poljička road also has several scenic spots on the way to Omiš. This area is historically famous for Poljica Republic, autonomous community which existed in the late Middle Ages. Our first stop was Sv. Jure church near village Gata. Church was a place where lords were chosen and decisions, for Republic, were made. Nowadays, it known as a beautiful viewpoint with a view of the Cetina canyon and Omiš city.

P1166645

P1166649

Next, you cannot miss Mila Gojsalić statue! It is further down the road towards Omiš.
See instructions -> HERE

The legend says young girl from Poljica, named Mila Gojsalić, seduced Ottoman leader Ahmed-Pasha and, after he fell a sleep, she set on fire gunpowder storage. When Ottomans tried to capture her she ran of the cliff edge and jumped into her death.
In memory of that heroic act, famous Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović created statue of Mila at precisely the same place where Mila jumped to her death.

That said, keep in mind statue is directly on the road, keep your eyes open so you don’t miss it! View of canyon and Omiš is incredible! Here we even took our Mavic DJ Pro drone for a ride.

Omis_DianoMaya-1166678

We parked a car on a road above statue. Close by there is damn, some kind of waterfall and tunnel that goes inside mountain. There are no markings on the road which say what that place really is, so we are not sure how safe it is to go there. For us it was perfect Instagram place, so I just went down 🙂

Omis_DianoMaya-1166695Omis_DianoMaya-1166709

Now, we can ride down to Omiš city, small town on Dalmatian coastline. Our friend Pave lives there, so we are always happy to see him.

Pave has apartments he is renting during summer, check him out if you are planing to stay in Omiš overnight -> HERE.
You get 10% discount if you book trough this link (for any city and booking):  https://www.booking.com/s/27_8/maivce99

Omiš is for every kind of holiday. You can go mountain climbing, rafting, canyoning or do zipline. If you are not adrenaline type of person, Omiš has historical city center with Mirabela fortress above roofs of old town. There is a big sandy beach on Adriatic sea and Radmanove Mlinice getaway on river Cetina, where you can just chill all day. That is summer Omiš we are talking about, but during winter it is another story. Everything is pretty much closed and streets are completely empty. Which is ok, if you want to escape for a day.
